Volotea has formalized its return to Alvedro Airport in A Coruna by launching five new domestic routes to Bilbao, Malaga, Valencia, Seville, and Alicante. This operational reactivation strengthens point-to-point connectivity across the Galician autonomous community, driving economic competitiveness and inbound tourism throughout the metropolitan area of A Coruna.
Flight Schedule and Frequencies from Alvedro Airport
The carrier has outlined a phased rollout to restart commercial operations at the A Coruna terminal, tailoring seat capacity to seasonal aviation schedules:
- Bilbao, Malaga, and Valencia: Commercial service launches today, November 6.
- Seville: Service commences on November 7.
- Alicante: Route launch scheduled for December 2.
Throughout the winter schedule, each of the five city pairs will operate at a frequency of two weekly flights. Heading into the summer season, the airline plans to ramp up capacity by adding flight frequencies on services to Malaga, Seville, and Valencia, adjusting available seat kilometers (ASK) to meet seasonal passenger demand.
The resumption of scheduled passenger air service was highlighted at an official launch event hosted at A Coruna City Hall. Attendees included Mayor Ines Rey, representatives from the A Coruna Tourism and Convention Bureau (Consorcio de Turismo y Congresos de A Coruna), and Volotea’s Chief Strategy Officer, Gabriel Schmilovich.
Gabriel Schmilovich, Chief Strategy Officer at Volotea, emphasized Galicia’s strategic role within the carrier’s network:
“We are delighted to return to A Coruna, a market where we first launched services in 2019 and have since flown over 400,000 passengers. Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter with five domestic links that will expand travel options for local residents while enabling more visitors to discover everything Galicia has to offer. For Volotea, Galicia remains a strategic market where we intend to continue evaluating new route opportunities.”
Operational Track Record in the Galician Aviation Market
Volotea launched commercial operations in Galicia in 2012 and established its footprint at A Coruna Airport in April 2019. Since launching scheduled flights at Alvedro, the low-cost carrier has handled more than 400,000 inbound and outbound passengers.
With this latest network expansion, the carrier expects to reach a cumulative total of more than 433,000 offered seats at A Coruna through year-end 2026, reinforcing its core business model focused on connecting small and mid-sized European cities via nonstop, point-to-point links that bypass traditional hub-and-spoke layovers.
Restoring this bundle of nonstop air services not only improves direct mobility for outbound regional travelers to northern, southern, and eastern Spain, but also channels inbound passenger flows toward the region’s cultural landmarks, Atlantic coastline, and gastronomy. Through this move, the carrier consolidates its strategic standing at Alvedro and sets the stage for future network growth across regional Spanish airports.
