In a strategic move aimed at strengthening its international operations and consolidating its position in key regional markets, Air Transat has announced the transition of its non-stop service between Montreal-Trudeau and Dakar, Senegal, into a permanent, year-round operation.
Originally launched in June 2026 as a seasonal summer connection, this exclusive route will now remain on the active schedule continuously throughout the Winter 2026–2027 season. To support this transatlantic service, the carrier will deploy its widebody fleet flagship, the Airbus A330.
Transatlantic Strategy: The Only Non-Stop Link to Sub-Saharan Africa
The Montreal–Dakar route holds the distinction of being the sole non-stop air link directly connecting Canada to Sub-Saharan Africa. Extending this route to a year-round service directly addresses sustained VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) demand from the Senegalese diaspora residing in Quebec, as well as an increasing volume of travelers seeking direct access to West Africa.
“This route plays a vital role for communities traveling between Canada and Senegal,” said Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat. “By making it year-round, we are providing our customers with greater continuity and convenience while reinforcing our commitment to this market.”

Operational Details: Montreal – Dakar Service
For the Winter 2026–2027 season, spanning from October 30, 2026, through March 26, 2027, the airline will operate a weekly scheduled service as follows:
- Winter Frequency: 1 flight per week (Fridays).
- Network Integration: Complements the 2 weekly frequencies operated during the summer peak.
- Assigned Aircraft: Airbus A330 widebody.
Regional Network Expansion to Sun Destinations in Mexico
Alongside its long-haul growth, Air Transat is reinforcing point-to-point connectivity from regional gateways in eastern Canada to sun destinations across Mexico and the Caribbean, catering to seasonal leisure demand.
New Windsor Services and Extended Fredericton Operations
Effective December 19, 2026, the carrier will add a new non-stop route linking Windsor Airport to Cancun International Airport. Operating weekly on Saturdays through April 25, 2027, Cancun joins Windsor’s existing international portfolio, where Air Transat currently operates flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Meanwhile, the non-stop link between Fredericton International Airport and Cancun—originally introduced last winter—returns for the 2026–2027 season with an extended operational window. Flights will launch on December 16, 2026, and run through April 29, 2027, maintaining a weekly Wednesday service to capture travel demand across New Brunswick.
The consolidation of the Dakar route represents a significant milestone in the evolution of Air Transat’s intercontinental network, establishing Montreal as a pivotal hub for specialized transatlantic connectivity.
