Avianca Expands International Network with New Flights to Fort Lauderdale from Barranquilla and Cali

Air connectivity between Colombia and the United States has reached a new milestone with the launch of Avianca’s daily, non-stop operations linking the cities of Barranquilla and Cali with Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. This strategic new alternative significantly simplifies travel to southern Florida, allowing passengers to optimize their travel times by bypassing intermediate layovers.

To operate these schedules, the carrier has deployed its narrowbody Airbus A320 fleet, configured with a capacity of 180 passengers. This joint offering injects more than 5,000 weekly seats into the bilateral market, consolidating the airline’s presence in one of the highest-demand international corridors.

Fort Lauderdale: A Proven Alternative to Miami

Historically, Miami International Airport has served as the primary gateway for Latin American travelers heading to South Florida. However, Fort Lauderdale has firmly positioned itself as a highly efficient and well-connected option. Strategically located north of the Miami metropolitan area, its geographical position provides swift and seamless access to South Florida’s tourist hotspots, financial hubs, and residential zones.

For the Colombian Caribbean and Valle del Cauca regions, having direct flights to this terminal mitigates travel fatigue, reduces ground transit times after landing, and optimizes the overall passenger experience.

Strengthening the Global Network and Regional Connectivity

These new routes do not merely support direct point-to-point travel; they are fully integrated into the airline’s extensive route network, offering travelers seamless connections to over 80 destinations across the Americas and Europe. This dynamically streamlines travel schedules to other key U.S. cities and enhances the integration of regional markets into the international arena.

“The launch of these operations reflects our ongoing commitment to strengthening international connectivity for Colombia’s regions. With these routes, we are not only offering direct, convenient options to the United States but also facilitating our customers’ access to a global network of over 80 destinations in the Americas and Europe, always backed by a flexible business model that allows everyone to choose how they prefer to fly,” said David Alemán, Avianca’s Sales Director for Colombia and South America.

With the deployment of these services, Avianca solidifies one of the most robust connectivity networks on the continent, currently operating a schedule of over 400 weekly flights between Latin America and the United States.
