Airbus has consolidated its position in the global commercial aviation market after securing an order for A320neo family aircraft from Shohin Airlines and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Philippine Airlines to double its A350-1000 fleet.
Shohin Airlines Debuts A320neo Family to Transform Aviation in Tajikistan
Dushanbe-based private carrier Shohin Airlines has announced a firm order for four Airbus A320neo family aircraft, marking the airline’s first transaction with the European airframer. The order—previously logged as undisclosed in Airbus’s order book at the end of June—comprises two A320neos and two A321neos.
Founded in June 2025, the carrier aims to establish an extensive route network and build a brand representing Tajikistan on the global aviation stage.
Cabin Configuration and Fleet Strategy
The new aircraft will feature a two-class layout designed to optimize operational efficiency and passenger comfort:
- Airbus A320neo: 176 seats.
- Airbus A321neo: 196 seats.
“Signing our first contract with Airbus marks a major milestone not only for Shohin Airlines but for Tajikistan’s entire civil aviation sector. The A320neo family aircraft will form the backbone of our modern, efficient, and environmentally sustainable fleet. We are confident that this partnership will lay the foundation for our long-term growth,” said Zafar Ahmadzoda, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shohin Airlines.

Philippine Airlines Doubles Down on the A350-1000 for Long-Haul Routes
At the Farnborough Airshow, Philippine Airlines formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for nine A350-1000 widebody aircraft. Once finalized into a firm order, the airline will double its total order for the type to 18 aircraft, following the delivery of its first two units earlier this year.
The announcement was attended by Lucio C. Tan III, President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of PAL Holdings, Inc.; Richard Nuttall, President of Philippine Airlines; Lars Wagner, CEO of Airbus Commercial Aircraft; and Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales.
Strengthening the Transpacific Network
Designated as the flag carrier’s new flagship aircraft, the A350-1000 will enable PAL to fly nonstop between its Manila hub and destinations across the U.S. East Coast and Canada.
- Sole Regional Operator: PAL remains the first and only Southeast Asian airline to operate the Airbus A350-1000.
- Fleet Profile: In addition to the A350, PAL currently operates A330s, A320s, A321s, Boeing 777s, and holds an order for up to 20 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners.
“The A350-1000 will continue to define the future of our international operations for years to come. As the first and currently only Southeast Asian airline operating the A350-1000, we have experienced firsthand its exceptional range, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort,” stated Lucio C. Tan III.
The aircraft commitments from Shohin Airlines and Philippine Airlines highlight a broader commercial aviation trend: airlines accelerating next-generation fleet renewal to curb fuel burn and maximize profitability across regional and intercontinental networks.
