JetSMART Celebrates 10th Anniversary: Consolidation of Ultra-Low-Cost Model and South American Expansion Outlook

Ten years ago, JetSMART Airlines was founded with the premise of transforming air connectivity in South America through the introduction of the ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) model. A decade later, the airline has turned that strategic vision into one of the most significant operational expansion success stories in Latin American commercial aviation.

Since commencing operations, the carrier has recorded a cumulative total of over 62 million passengers transported. A key milestone in terms of demand stimulation is that more than 15 million people flew for the first time, driven by the introduction of low fares and a highly efficient operational model.

Currently, JetSMART has developed an interconnected network spanning more than 90 routes to over 50 destinations across nine countries, maintaining fully consolidated domestic operations in four strategic markets: Chile, Argentina, Peru, and Colombia.

Fleet Structure, Operational Efficiency, and Sustainability

JetSMART’s business model is anchored by three primary operational pillars: an optimized cost structure, a homogenous next-generation fleet, and a comprehensive focus on operational safety and customer experience.

International Accreditation and IATA Membership

In terms of regulatory compliance and operational governance, the airline reached major milestones by successfully completing the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) across all of its Air Operator Certificates (AOCs).

In parallel, the carrier formalized its entry as a full member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), aligning its standards with global commercial aviation best practices.

Regarding customer satisfaction, aviation consultancy Skytrax awarded JetSMART the title of Best Low-Cost Airline in South America in 2025 for the third time.

“Ten years ago, we set out to bring a revolution to the South American aviation market: to make air travel accessible to every South American through the ultra-low-cost model. Today, over 62 million passengers validate that vision. The ‘JetSMART factor’ has meant bringing low fares, new routes and operational bases, and innovative commercial models that make connecting within and outside each country we serve much easier. My thanks go out to each and every one of our customers, and above all, to the RockSTARS who make the difference together every single day. It’s hard to believe 10 years have passed since we began, but what we have achieved fills me with satisfaction, and I am excited that we are just getting started. Vamos, Volando Por Ti.”
— Estuardo Ortiz, CEO and Founder of JetSMART Airlines

Network Expansion: Cross-Border Connectivity and New Route

As part of its 10th-anniversary celebrations, the airline unveiled its brand campaign “Vamos Volando, por ti” (We fly for you), which will accompany its commercial initiatives throughout the year.

On the network development front, JetSMART officially announced a new direct international route connecting Buenos Aires’ Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza) with Medellín’s José María Córdova International Airport, set to launch in November.

Looking ahead to the next decade, JetSMART projects consolidating its regional position through the continuous delivery of its firm Airbus aircraft order, strengthening its domestic and international operational bases, and continuously opening previously unserved city pairs—all while keeping safety, efficiency, and affordable fares as the core pillars of its business model.
