Matecaña International Airport, the primary aviation infrastructure serving the city of Pereira and Colombia’s Coffee Triangle, is set to resume commercial flight operations this Tuesday, August 25. The restart plan projects an estimated capacity of 18 daily flights under a phased operational scheme and stringent terminal access protocols.
Reactivation Strategy and Operational Management
The reopening of the air terminal follows a coordinated work plan between the Pereira Mayor’s Office, Colombian civil aviation authorities, and the management of Matecaña International Airport. This joint effort aims to restore regional air connectivity while ensuring high standards of safety and operational efficiency across the infrastructure.
During this transitional phase, airlines operating at the terminal will progressively scale up their flight schedules to stabilize passenger and aircraft traffic flows.

Mandatory Passenger Protocols at the Air Terminal
To regulate foot traffic and prevent overcrowding within the facilities, airport management has established five mandatory operational guidelines:
- Services Consolidated on the First Floor: All airport services, check-in counters, and passenger processing will take place exclusively on the first level of the terminal building.
- Temporary Access via the Control Tower: Passenger entry has been restricted solely to the sector adjacent to the Control Tower.
- Access Restricted to Ticketed Passengers: Non-traveling companions are strictly prohibited from entering. Only individuals presenting a valid ticket or boarding pass will be granted entry to the terminal.
- Encouragement of Digital Check-In: Travelers are required to check in for their flights in advance via airline web platforms or mobile apps to reduce congestion at physical check-in desks.
- Direct Flight Status Verification: Passengers are urged to confirm their flight status, dates, and rescheduled departure times directly through their respective carriers’ official channels.
Airline Operations
Carriers including LATAM Airlines and Copa Airlines have confirmed the resumption of their flight operations to and from Pereira starting Tuesday, August 25.
Airport officials recommended consulting each airline’s official platforms to review detailed flight schedules.
Through these operational measures, the Pereira Mayor’s Office and Matecaña International Airport management aim to ensure the continuity of air transport services and drive the region’s economic recovery.
