Wingo Boosts Santander Connectivity: Increases Frequencies Between Bucaramanga and Santa Marta
As part of its strategy to strengthen operations in eastern Colombia, Wingo has expanded its capacity on the route connecting Bucaramanga and Santa Marta. Since August 19, the airline added 7,812 additional seats to this schedule, reinforcing one of the most popular connections for passengers from Santander.
Prior to this adjustment, the route operated on a two-weekly frequency schedule, regularly set for Fridays and Sundays. Under the new operational plan, Wingo will offer three fixed weekly frequencies, scaling up to four weekly flights during peak demand periods. This capacity increase will be implemented by adding operations on Mondays and/or Wednesdays, depending on seasonal market variations.
Consolidation of the Regional Hub and Response to Demand
The capacity expansion directly responds to commercial performance across the region. Year-to-date in 2026, Wingo has recorded cumulative passenger traffic exceeding 103,000 travelers departing from the capital of Santander.

Jorge Jiménez, Commercial and Planning Vice President at Wingo, highlighted the importance of Santander within the carrier’s broader network:
“Bucaramanga has established itself as a key city within our network in Colombia, and we want to continue offering more alternatives so that Santander residents can fly direct to their most requested destinations. Santa Marta is a prime example of this strong performance: we have seen high demand for this connection, which is why we increased our capacity with more frequencies and options for travel to the Caribbean.”
Non-Stop Destination Network from Bucaramanga
With the frequency restructuring to Santa Marta, the non-stop route network operated by Wingo out of the department of Santander encompasses six strategic destinations:
- Bogota
- Medellin
- Cartagena
- Barranquilla
- Santa Marta
- Aruba (seasonal international operation)
Reactivation of International Route to the Caribbean
As part of its scheduling for the year-end peak season, Wingo confirmed the seasonal return of its direct international route connecting Bucaramanga and Aruba. The resumption of flights to the Caribbean island is scheduled to run between December 12, 2026, and January 16, 2027.
Through this deployment of operational capacity, the airline reaffirms its low-cost business model, optimizing point-to-point service that links Santander with major urban centers, domestic beach destinations, and international leisure spots.
