Wingo Consolidates Expansion in H1 2026: Carries 1.8 Million Passengers and Boosts Regional Network

During the first half of 2026, Wingo carried over 1.8 million passengers, representing a 12% growth compared to the same period last year. This performance was driven by a buoyant Colombian domestic market and a decisive decentralization strategy featuring the launch of nine new routes.

Operational Performance and Key H1 Metrics

Between January and June 2026, Wingo, a low-cost carrier (LCC) subsidiary of Copa Holdings, recorded sustained growth across its main operational KPIs:

  • Total Passenger Traffic: The airline transported more than 1.8 million passengers.
  • Domestic Operations: Served as the primary growth engine with 1.3 million passengers, representing a 21% year-over-year (YoY) increase.
  • International Operations: Carried nearly 500,000 passengers, boosted by the addition of new international connections to Jamaica, Guatemala, and Venezuela.
  • Flight Volume: The carrier completed nearly 12,000 flight sectors, marking a 13.5% increase compared to capacity offered in the same period of 2025.

Regional Strategy: Decentralization and Nine New Routes in 2026

Wingo’s network expansion throughout 2026 has focused on enhancing point-to-point regional connectivity without routing through Bogotá. The carrier has bolstered operations at bases in Medellín, Bucaramanga, and Barranquilla, while expanding capacity to Venezuela. Combined, flights associated with these regional markets moved more than 1.02 million passengers in the first six months of the year.

Medellín: Consolidating Its Position as the Second Main Base

With over 683,000 passengers carried, the Antioquian capital solidified its position as the airline’s second most important hub:

  • New International Routes: Launch of non-stop flights from Medellín to Guatemala City and Montego Bay, Jamaica.
  • Strategic Reconnection: Resumption of direct services between Medellín and Caracas.

Bucaramanga: Network Expansion with Four New Non-Stop Routes

Bucaramanga emerged as the company’s third most prominent operation, logging over 103,000 passengers during the half-year period:

  • Inauguration of Direct Flights: Addition of four new routes connecting to Medellín, Cartagena, Barranquilla, and Aruba.
  • Consolidated Network: These new additions complement existing services to Bogotá and Santa Marta, bringing the total offering to six non-stop destinations from Santander’s capital.

Barranquilla: Growth and Caribbean Connectivity

Operations from the capital of Atlántico reached over 195,000 passengers transported between January and June:

  • International Offering: Announcement of a new non-stop route to Aruba.
  • Route Network: The new service joins the active network connecting Barranquilla with Bogotá, Medellín, San Andrés, Bucaramanga, and Panama.

Venezuelan Market and Tailored Capacity Services

Advancements in Venezuelan Connectivity

Venezuela is establishing itself as a strategic market for Wingo, recording over 45,000 transborder passengers carried during the first half of the year:

  • Route Resumptions: Operations restarted on the Medellín–Caracas route.
  • New Services: Announcement of the Bogotá–Valencia route.
  • Charter Operations: Direct charter flights between Bogotá and Porlamar (Margarita Island) operated during June.

Full-Year FY2026 Outlook

Following its strong H1 results, Wingo projects it will close 2026 with a total passenger volume exceeding 4.2 million, maintaining its operational growth trajectory and the expansion of its route network across Colombia and the broader Caribbean region.
