British Airways has unveiled its network schedule for the Northern Summer 2027 season, spotlighted by its debut in Tanzania, a 25% capacity increase to Latin America, and strategic long-haul enhancements.
New Routes to Tanzania: Direct East African Connectivity
Starting May 29, 2027, the carrier will inaugurate flights to two new Tanzanian destinations: Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. The seasonal service will operate throughout the peak summer schedule through October 31.
Flight Details:
- Routing and Intermediate Stops: Departures from London Gatwick Airport, touching down at Kilimanjaro International Airport before continuing onward to Zanzibar.
- Frequency: Three flights per week.
- Fares: Round-trip fares starting at £849, inclusive of taxes, surcharges, and carry-on baggage allowance.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, highlighted that these routes solidify the flag carrier’s presence in East Africa and form part of a broader strategy to strengthen long-haul global connectivity from London through increased seat capacity and scheduling flexibility.
25% Latin American Growth and Summer 2027 Adjustments
Alongside the Tanzanian expansion, the carrier announced a series of schedule adjustments effective late March 2027, boosting Latin American capacity by 25%:
- Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Santiago (Chile): The Buenos Aires service will transition to a daily nonstop flight from London—the sole direct link connecting both capital cities—continuing onward as a tag-on flight to Santiago de Chile.
- Rio de Janeiro (Brazil): Seat capacity will increase as the daily flight is converted into a dedicated point-to-point service, removing its onward tag flights.
- San Jose (Costa Rica): The service originating at London Heathrow Airport transitions into a year-round scheduled operation, maintaining three weekly frequencies.
Additional Frequencies Across Africa, North America, and the Caribbean
The Summer 2027 long-haul schedule also incorporates frequency uplifts across other key markets:
- Cape Town (South Africa): Frequency rises from 7 to 10 weekly flights from London Heathrow.
- Las Vegas (United States): Increases from 13 to 14 frequencies per week out of London Heathrow.
- The Caribbean: London Gatwick flights to Barbados will extend through the Northern Summer 2027 season, maintaining onward connections to Grenada, Guyana, and Tobago. Meanwhile, the nonstop Gatwick–Saint Lucia route will operate at four weekly frequencies.
Upcoming Long-Haul Additions
These network updates complement two previously announced long-haul services: London Gatwick to Colombo (Sri Lanka), commencing October 23, and London Heathrow to Melbourne (Australia) via Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), slated to launch January 9. Through this fleet deployment, British Airways continues to expand intercontinental connectivity across its dual London hubs heading into 2027.
