FLYONE Armenia, the flag carrier of Armenia, has finalized a firm order with European planemaker Airbus for two A321neo aircraft. The deal marks the airline’s first-ever direct order with the airframer, representing a strategic milestone in its fleet modernization and route network expansion.
A Strategic Deal Stemming from a French Presidential Visit
The acquisition of these two narrowbody jetliners was initially announced under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 5, 2026, during the official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Yerevan. With the formal contract now signed, the agreement becomes a firm commitment.
Fleet Specifications: CFM Powerplants and High-Density Configuration
Both aircraft will feature next-generation technology aimed at optimizing the carrier’s operating performance and passenger capacity:
- Powerplant: The aircraft will be powered by LEAP engines developed by CFM International (CFM).
- Cabin Layout: The airframes will be configured in a single-class, all-economy layout seating 239 passengers.
- Operational Role: The incoming aircraft will be central to fleet reinforcement and serve as a cornerstone for the company’s network expansion plans.
Established in 2021, FLYONE Armenia currently operates a fleet of 11 Airbus A320 Family aircraft.
Aram Khachatryan, Chief Executive Officer of FLYONE Armenia, highlighted the significance of the agreement for both the airline and the country:
“Our first direct order with Airbus represents a major and symbolic milestone in FLYONE Armenia’s development. Taking delivery of two factory-fresh A321neos built by Airbus specifically for our airline reflects our continued commitment to fleet modernization and long-term growth. We are proud to deepen our partnership with Airbus, and we are confident that this investment will not only support FLYONE Armenia’s future growth, but also drive the ongoing development of Armenia’s civil aviation sector and its international cooperation.”
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft, welcomed the carrier into the manufacturer’s direct customer base:
“This first direct order from FLYONE Armenia highlights the carrier’s commitment to operational excellence and enhanced passenger comfort as it continues to grow its A320 Family fleet. We are delighted to welcome FLYONE into the Airbus customer family and look forward to building a deep, fruitful collaboration to support its strategic growth roadmap.”
Operational Outlook
With the planned induction of these two A321neos, FLYONE Armenia aims to enhance its operating efficiency and seat capacity, strengthening its competitive footprint across regional markets while consolidating its strategic partnership with Airbus to sustain long-term fleet growth.
