Gol Linhas Aereas Touches Down in Europe: Carrier Launches New Nonstop Route Between Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon
Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes launched its inaugural nonstop service between Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon on Wednesday, marking the carrier’s strategic debut in the European long-haul market.
Fleet and Schedule
Flights are initially being operated by an Airbus A330 wet-leased from Wamos Air, an airline also under the Abra Group umbrella.
- Initial Frequencies: The service debuts with four weekly frequencies, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
- Frequency Upsurge: Starting November 24, a Tuesday departure will be added to the schedule, bringing the frequency to five weekly flights.

Debut of INSIGNIA by Gol Business Class
A major highlight of this launch is the introduction of Gol’s upgraded premium cabin product, INSIGNIA by Gol, designed to deliver an elevated passenger experience across the transatlantic crossing. Key product features include:
- Priority check-in and boarding.
- Access to Gol Smiles Lounges and partner lounges in select destinations, including Lisbon and New York.
- Full-flat lie-flat seats.
- Curated amenity kits featuring products from Brazilian heritage brand Granado.
- Active noise-cancelling headphones.
- In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) system featuring individual 16-inch touchscreens.
- Priority deplaning and baggage delivery.
Strategic Expansion and Flight Frequency
The launch of this transatlantic route marks a pivotal milestone in the carrier’s international network expansion. Mateus Pongeluppi, Chief Commercial Officer at Gol, noted:
