American Airlines has formally announced plans to debut its largest Admirals Club lounge across its global network at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina. The project is part of a broader premium customer experience expansion at the carrier’s second-largest hub.
Over 40,000 Square Feet in the Heart of Charlotte
Once complete, the future lounge will encompass more than 40,000 square feet (approximately 3,716 square meters). Situated on the mezzanine level of the terminal’s central atrium, the prime location will offer panoramic apron views over the concourses below.
The announcement builds on plans outlined by the carrier last year to expand passenger spaces at Charlotte, which also feature the future introduction of its first Flagship Lounge at the airport.
“Designing a lounge that gives our customers more space to relax, work, and recharge is our highest priority. We are thrilled to bring our largest Admirals Club to Charlotte, where millions of customers travel each year,” said Heather Garboden, Chief Customer Experience Officer at American Airlines.
Groundbreaking and Operational Continuity
Construction on the new facility will begin later this year. To ensure uninterrupted service for passengers during the buildout, existing airport locations will remain fully operational:
- Provisions by Admirals Club, located near Gate A1.
- Admirals Club at Concourse B.
- Admirals Club at Concourse C/D.
Design, Amenities, and Premium Offerings
The architectural and interior design concepts draw direct inspiration from Charlotte’s local identity, weaving in motifs representing its lush tree canopy, textile manufacturing heritage, and a blend of modern sophistication with Southern hospitality.
Upon entry into service, the facility will feature dedicated zones tailored to diverse passenger needs:
- Spa-style shower suites.
- Full-service bars and attended food stations (serveries).
- Dedicated spaces for working, dining, resting, and device charging.
Charlotte Douglas’ Strategic Role in the American Airlines Network
