Dominican ultra-low-cost carrier Arajet has officially resumed direct commercial operations between Punta Cana and Guayaquil, marking its return to the Ecuadorian market with inaugural flights achieving a 100% load factor.
The reactivation of this nonstop air link is designed to meet rising leisure and corporate travel demand between both nations, while expanding international connectivity options from the Dominican Republic’s primary tourism hub to multiple destinations across North America and the Caribbean.
Flight Frequencies and Schedule: Punta Cana – Guayaquil Route
The operational schedule established to connect both markets is structured as follows:
- Punta Cana to Guayaquil: Scheduled service operating on Mondays and Fridays.
- Guayaquil to Punta Cana: Return flights scheduled on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Connectivity and Onward Connecting Destinations
In addition to providing nonstop, point-to-point service between Guayaquil and the Dominican Republic, the carrier’s route network enables passengers departing from the Ecuadorian commercial hub to make seamless connections via its Punta Cana base to:
- Cancun
- Miami
- Orlando
- San Juan, Puerto Rico
Addressing the service resumption, Jose Cabrera, Vice President of Communications and Public Relations at Arajet, highlighted the route’s initial performance and the airline’s broader strategy:
“Returning to Guayaquil represents a significant milestone in our commitment to the Ecuadorian market, and doing so with inaugural flights reaching a 100% load factor provides a very strong signal of the growth potential we see on this route. This service not only brings Ecuadorians closer to the Dominican Republic, but also allows them to connect onward to key destinations across the Caribbean and North America through our network.”
Ecuador currently ranks among the top 15 source markets for tourism into the Dominican Republic. In 2025, approximately 67,600 Ecuadorian travelers visited the Caribbean nation—a 4% year-over-year increase compared to 2024—reflecting sustained bilateral traffic flows and passenger preference for the destination.
Consolidating the Dominican Hub Strategy
The restoration of flights to Guayaquil aligns with Arajet’s broader commercial strategy to establish the Dominican Republic as a leading transit hub for the Americas. The carrier currently serves a network of 30 destinations across the Americas and has carried more than four million passengers since launching commercial operations.
