Venezuela and ITA Airways have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to resume direct scheduled commercial operations between Caracas and Rome. The restoration of this air bridge will bolster international connectivity and bilateral exchange between the South American nation and the European continent.
Under the framework agreed upon by both parties, the initial flight schedule and operational parameters are defined as follows:
- Launch Date: March 30, 2027.
- Initial Frequency: Three flights per week.
- Route Objective: Expand air transport capacity between Europe and Venezuela, restoring a strategic long-haul connection.
Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways, praised the signing of the agreement with the Embassy of Venezuela, underscoring both the institutional and commercial significance of the carrier’s return to this market:
“We are very pleased today as we sign an agreement with the Embassy of Venezuela for the new link between Rome and Caracas, which will launch on March 30 next year with three weekly frequencies,” Eberhart stated.
“We are particularly glad to return to Venezuela, to Caracas, where we operated this route many years ago… We are fully confident that this partnership will be solid and deliver very positive results.”
Furthermore, he expressed his appreciation to the diplomatic and governmental authorities who facilitated the negotiations:
“I want to thank the Ambassador and the Vice Minister for this opportunity.”
Outlook and Expansion of the Air Link
Although the service will inaugurate with three weekly frequencies, both parties are already planning a medium-term capacity ramp-up:
- Initial Phase: 3 weekly frequencies starting in March 2027.
- Future Outlook: Progressive capacity increase toward seven weekly frequencies (daily service).
The execution of this Memorandum of Understanding marks ITA Airways’ entrance into the Venezuelan market, reinstating a crucial nonstop link between Venezuela and Europe while setting the foundation for future route growth aimed at consolidating daily operations between Rome and Caracas.
