Qatar Airways is on the verge of placing a substantial order for wide-body aircraft to strengthen its long-term growth. This was confirmed by the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Thierry Antinori, in statements to Reuters this Monday.

A Cutting-Edge Fleet for the Future

The Qatari airline is in the process of negotiating with aircraft manufacturers to define the terms of a strategic purchase. “To ensure tomorrow’s growth, while maintaining a very solid fleet and the best in the industry, our CEO is working on the request for proposal with the manufacturers to finalize a significant order soon,” Antinori stated.

Although he did not specify whether the purchase will be made exclusively with Airbus, Boeing, or through a split agreement between both companies, he did reveal that the contract will be announced next month.

Accelerated Market Growth

Qatar Airways’ growth has surpassed the market average in terms of the number of passengers carried. From April 2024 to January of this year, the airline has recorded a 9% increase across its network, with notable increases of 14% in Europe and 12% in Germany. These figures highlight the company’s dynamism in recovering and expanding its routes.

Industry Expectations

Last July, during the Farnborough Air Show, Qatar Airways’ CEO, Badr al Meer, had already hinted that the airline was considering a significant aircraft order. The imminent confirmation of this order reinforces the company’s growth strategy and its commitment to operational excellence.

The aviation industry is closely watching Qatar Airways’ moves, as this order could represent a significant boost for both Airbus and Boeing. In the coming weeks, the airline is expected to reveal details about the number of aircraft acquired and the distribution of the order among the manufacturers.
