AviLease, the Saudi Arabia-based aircraft leasing company, has placed its first direct order with Boeing. The firm purchase includes 20 units of the 737-8 model, with options for 10 additional aircraft.
This move not only strengthens AviLease’s growing portfolio but also ensures its customers access to a modern, fuel-efficient fleet, aligning with current sustainability trends in aviation.
Edward O’Byrne, CEO of AviLease, highlighted the significance of this deal: “We are pleased to finalize our first direct order with an OEM, which complements our growth strategy aimed at positioning us as industry leaders.”

This agreement follows AviLease’s recent achievement of investment-grade ratings, enhancing its ability to operate across all market channels: sale-and-leaseback, secondary trading, mergers and acquisitions, and now, direct purchases from manufacturers. O’Byrne emphasized that these new aircraft will accelerate the company’s expansion and enable it to offer cutting-edge fleet solutions to its clients.
A Boost for Saudi Arabia’s Aviation Vision
The order aligns with Saudi Arabia’s ambitious strategic plan to become a global aviation hub. The aircraft will contribute to the national goal of transporting 330 million passengers and attracting 150 million annual visitors by 2030.
Brad McMullen, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, expressed enthusiasm for the strengthened partnership: “We are honored to deepen our relationship with a key player in Saudi commercial aviation and to expand the global 737 MAX fleet.”
McMullen noted that the 737 MAX will provide AviLease with a powerful combination of fuel efficiency and operational versatility, supporting both the lessor’s profitable growth and the sustainability goals of its airline customers.
