LATAM Airlines Brasil and Japan Airlines have taken a key step in their strategic alliance by announcing the expansion of their codeshare agreement, adding six new domestic routes in Brazil starting July 19. This expansion brings the total number of shared routes to 33, strengthening Brazil’s domestic connectivity and enhancing the integration of both airlines’ networks.
Six New Destinations on the Shared Map
The newly added routes operate from LATAM’s main hub in Guarulhos (São Paulo) to six key cities: Florianópolis (Santa Catarina), Maringá (Paraná), Belém (Pará), Cuiabá (Mato Grosso), Goiânia (Goiás), and Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro. This expansion represents a significant advancement for Japanese travelers and those of other nationalities, who can now access multiple Brazilian destinations more easily through a single booking.

How the Codeshare Agreement Works
A codeshare agreement allows two airlines to market seats on flights operated by one of them while maintaining their own flight codes. For passengers, this translates into tangible benefits: a single purchase for the entire journey, unified check-in, direct baggage handling, and greater flexibility in schedules and connections.
Connecting Japan with South America
The partnership between LATAM and Japan Airlines not only improves the travel experience within Brazil but also strengthens the integration of LATAM’s South American network with Japan Airlines’ network, which currently covers 133 domestic destinations in Japan and 66 international ones. This synergy aims to bolster ties between Asia and South America, facilitating travel between two key regions for tourism and business.
LATAM’s Global Alliance Network
LATAM continues to expand its global presence through agreements with more than 25 airlines worldwide. This strategy enables a smoother and more connected travel experience for its passengers, particularly in intercontinental markets where collaboration between airlines becomes essential to expanding destination options and improving operational efficiency.
With this codeshare expansion with Japan Airlines, LATAM solidifies its position as a strategic operator for those looking to explore Brazil from Asia and vice versa, raising the bar for convenience and coverage for its passengers.
