The airline Viva (VivaAerobus) has announced the opening of two new international routes from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to the United States. The new destinations will be Austin and New York-JFK, strengthening the air connectivity of the Mexico City Metropolitan Area.

The Austin route will commence on November 20, with three weekly frequencies. The New York route will be temporary, operating at the same frequency from December 12 to January 11, 2026. It will subsequently return in June for the Soccer World Cup.

New Services Adding to Viva’s Expansion

These flights are part of the growth strategy announced in April, when the low-cost carrier unveiled seven additional routes from AIFA to Los Angeles, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Miami, and Orlando, which are also scheduled to begin operations in November.

US Expansion Strategy

The airline noted that this year it also added two new domestic routes to Veracruz and Saltillo, scheduled for November. With these additions, Viva will reach 42 operational routes from AIFA by the end of 2025, of which 11 will be international and 31 domestic, compared to the 29 it operated last year.

Viva’s CEO, Juan Carlos Zuazua, emphasized the importance of AIFA as a key piece in the US expansion strategy: “These announcements come just in time for the world’s most important sporting event: the 2026 World Cup. At Viva, we are preparing to connect Mexicans with various host cities and to welcome the wave of international tourists who will undoubtedly visit our country during this major event.”
