StarSky Aircraft Overruns Runway in Mogadishu, Ending Up on Beach Following Technical Failure
A Fokker 50 aircraft operated by the airline StarSky was involved in an incident this Tuesday at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, Somalia. The aircraft, carrying 55 people including passengers and crew, ended up beyond the runway limits and came to a halt on a beach adjacent to the airport after experiencing technical failures during takeoff.
The Incident
According to official reports issued by local authorities, the aircraft experienced a technical failure shortly after takeoff while bound for the city of Galkayo, forcing the crew to attempt an emergency return to the airport. During the emergency landing maneuver, the aircraft overran the runway and ended up in the coastal area adjacent to the airfield. No fuselage fire was reported.

Emergency Response and Evacuation
Emergency and rescue teams were immediately deployed to the impact zone, securing the perimeter and assisting with evacuation efforts. The Somali aviation authority confirmed that there were no fatalities. However, several passengers required medical attention for minor injuries and shock.
Operational Impact
The airport maintained general operations. Nevertheless, delays were recorded for some flights, primarily associated with the coordination of maneuvers to recover the aircraft from the shoreline.

Following the incident, the aviation authority launched a formal technical investigation to identify the exact causes of the failure.
