Delta TechOps has reached a significant industry milestone by expanding its service portfolio, becoming the first and only North American airline maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider licensed to offer comprehensive support for CFM LEAP-1A and CFM LEAP-1B engines. This capability positions the company as a global leader in the sustainment of the world’s most advanced narrow-body fleets.

Strategic Leadership in the Narrow-Body Market

The incorporation of full overhaul capability for CFM International LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines places Delta TechOps at the center of the aviation market’s evolution. According to Alain Bellemare, International Executive Vice President and President of Delta TechOps, the LEAP engine family represents a significant and rapidly growing share of the global narrow-body aircraft fleet.

This technological advancement allows the organization to consolidate its position as an operator-backed MRO partner, which is fundamental in a market that will define commercial aviation for decades to come.

Technical Capabilities and Distinctions

Delta TechOps has not only achieved this technical milestone but also holds key distinctions within the manufacturer’s network:

  • It is one of the few providers selected as a CFM Premier MRO for the LEAP engine family.
  • In 2022, it was the first MRO in North America to earn the “Premier” provider designation specifically for LEAP-1B engines.
  • The company offers high-quality solutions based on the precision and operational rigor required for today’s most complex narrow-body engines.

A Historic Alliance Driven by Innovation

The relationship between Delta and CFM spans over 40 years, built on collaboration and fleet reliability. Delta TechOps has operated and maintained engines from this manufacturer for both its own fleet and dozens of third-party customers, accumulating deep technical expertise.

Gaël Méheust, President and CEO of CFM, highlighted that both organizations are deeply committed to an open and innovative MRO ecosystem. This partnership has strengthened during the transition from the CFM56—considered the most successful commercial jet engines in history—to the LEAP family.

Operational Impact and LEAP Program Statistics

The LEAP engine is the powerplant driving the most modern aircraft from the world’s two leading manufacturers:

  • LEAP-1A: Powers the Airbus A320neo family.
  • LEAP-1B: The exclusive engine for the Boeing 737 MAX.

In this regard, Delta has ordered 100 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, with deliveries set to begin once the model receives certification.

Marc Meredith, Commercial Director of Delta TechOps, stated that their technicians are prepared to deliver the quality and performance operators need to keep their aircraft flying. The comprehensive support now offered by the company ranges from on-wing services to component repair and full overhaul.
