Volotea and ITA Airways have announced the launch of a codeshare agreement that entered into force on April 15, 2026. This strategic alliance marks a key milestone in improving connectivity between Italy and the rest of Europe, offering a combined network of up to 104 travel combinations for passengers.
A Natural Step in Strategic Cooperation
The new agreement represents the evolution of a relationship that began last year with the signing of an interline agreement. By elevating the cooperation to a codeshare level, both companies aim to respond flexibly to a constantly evolving market, facilitating access to key destinations with the convenience of a single ticket.
For Volotea, the airline focused on small and medium-sized European cities, this step reinforces its commercial visibility in new markets. Meanwhile, ITA Airways, Italy’s flagship carrier, succeeds in expanding its offering by integrating destinations operated by its partner’s network.
Network Expansion and Connectivity via Rome Fiumicino
The core of this agreement is built upon Volotea’s robust network to Rome-Fiumicino Airport and ITA Airways’ capacity at said hub. Once the technical implementation is complete, the collaboration will allow for increased connections to various strategic points:
Connections from the Rome hub toward:
- Italian Destinations: Milan-Linate, Catania, Palermo, Brindisi, Trieste, Genoa, and Reggio Calabria.
- European Destinations: Frankfurt, Paris, London, Zurich, Tirana, and Amsterdam.
New Opportunities via Spain
The agreement also contemplates the opening of routes through the Madrid and Barcelona hubs, allowing ITA Airways passengers to access destinations operated by Volotea, such as:
- Murcia, Asturias, and Vitoria.
- Other relevant cities such as Bilbao, Bordeaux, Lourdes/Tarbes, Nantes, and Strasbourg.
Carlos Muñoz, founder and CEO of Volotea, highlighted that this advancement allows for a greater variety of destinations while maintaining a focus on accessibility and quality of service.
On the other hand, Joerg Eberhart, CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways, underlined Volotea’s reliability as a partner and how this union highlights his airline’s role in the development of air mobility and tourism in Italy.
This agreement reaffirms the commitment of both companies to strengthen the European aeronautical fabric, providing more efficient and connected travel solutions for users in the region.
