United Airlines Marks US 250th Anniversary With Special Livery
United Airlines has unveiled its new “Stars and Stripes” commemorative livery to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Alongside the rollout, the carrier announced a key milestone in the United Military Pilot Program (UMPP)—a strategic initiative that allows active-duty military pilots to secure conditional job offers significantly earlier than standard industry timelines.
Since 2024, nearly 600 military pilots have transitioned to United Airlines through this program, with an additional 500 professionals projected to join the ranks by the end of 2027.
American Spirit Takes Flight on Boeing 787-10 and 737-800 Aircraft
United Airlines’ new special livery will enter service this Northern Hemisphere summer on two American-built aircraft: a Boeing 787-10 and a Boeing 737-800.
The paint scheme, applied at facility workshops in Amarillo, Texas, stands out for the following features:
- Patriotic Design: It features a red, white, and blue color palette, complemented by 50 stars paying tribute to each of the nation’s states.
- Dynamic Aesthetics: The diagonally arranged red and white stripes are designed to reflect the energy and constant motion of the country.
- Internal Tribute: Both aircraft will feature a dedicated commemorative plaque honoring United Airlines’ active-duty service members and veterans who have served the nation.

The official unveiling took place at Washington Dulles International Airport, attended by US Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy and United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby, alongside local dignitaries and employees from the company’s veterans business resource group.
United Military Pilot Program: Flexibility and Career Pathways for the Armed Forces
The UMPP has established itself as a direct and flexible pathway for active-duty and reserve pilots from the United States Armed Forces to secure a seat on the United Airlines flight deck as a First Officer.
Program Requirements and Conditions
- Timeline: Candidates must apply when they are more than 12 months away from their full-time availability date and at least 12 months prior to their military separation date.
- Technical Flexibility: Applicants are not required to hold an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate at the time of application to receive a conditional job offer. This facilitates an organized transition tailored to the needs of each military family.
United Airlines currently employs a workforce of more than 18,000 pilots, over 4,500 of whom are military veterans.
By deploying its new commemorative livery and achieving key recruitment milestones within its military pilot program, United Airlines not only celebrates national history but also secures a steady pipeline of highly qualified technical talent for years to come, strengthening its corporate ties with the US defense community.
