Hub Expansion and Existing Routes

In addition to the new destinations, the airline will strengthen global connectivity across three of its primary hubs:

  • Los Angeles – Osaka, Japan: Daily service starting March 27. United will be the only carrier operating to Osaka from two mainland U.S. gateways (complementing San Francisco and Guam).
  • Washington Dulles – Milan, Italy: Three weekly frequencies starting May 28, becoming the sole direct link between the U.S. capital and Milan.
  • Denver – Paris, France: Daily service starting May 27, complementing existing operations from Newark/New York, Washington Dulles, Chicago, and San Francisco.
  • San Francisco – Tel Aviv, Israel: Resumption of flights on March 28 with three weekly frequencies, offering the highest business class seat capacity between both cities.

Furthermore, the airline confirmed the return for the Summer 2027 season of seasonal routes launched in Summer 2026 from Newark/New York to Split (Croatia), Bari (Italy), Glasgow (Scotland), and Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

Airbus A321XLR Debut

To support its intercontinental expansion, the carrier introduced the Airbus A321XLR under the motto ‘Born to Explore’. The narrowbody aircraft will operate routes to Ibiza, Luxembourg, Marseille, Toulouse, and Valencia during the Summer 2027 season.

Cabin Specifications:

  • Premium Layout: A total of 32 premium seats, including 20 United Polaris® suites equipped with privacy doors and 12 United Premium Plus® seats (16 more premium berths than on the Boeing 757-200).
  • Economy Plus® Innovation: New seating featuring extra elbow room and access to a shared table on the unallocated center seat.
  • In-Flight Technology: High-speed Starlink Wi-Fi connectivity (complimentary for MileagePlus® members), 4K OLED screens with Bluetooth pairing, and a complimentary snack bar in the United Economy® cabin.

The A321XLR will debut on select domestic routes in September before launching international service on December 1 from Washington Dulles International Airport to Amsterdam and Dublin. Ticket sales for these initial transatlantic legs open Thursday, August 27. All announced routes remain subject to government regulatory approvals.

Senior management underscored that this expansion aligns with the goal of strengthening brand equity and driving competitive differentiation through network growth and service quality.

“The creative and strategic way we’ve expanded our international network since the pandemic has made all the difference—not just for our customers and employees, but as a path to differentiate United and build a customer-centric brand,” said Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines.

With this announcement, United Airlines solidifies its position as the U.S. carrier offering the highest volume of transoceanic flights and seats across the Atlantic and Pacific.
