Korean Air and Boeing Finalize Historic Order for 103 Aircraft Valued at $36.2 Billion
South Korean flag carrier Korean Air and U.S. manufacturer Boeing formalized an agreement this Wednesday for the acquisition of 103 aircraft, valued at $36.2 billion at list prices. The transaction caps off the commitment initially announced in 2025 and represents the largest investment plan in the history of the airline.
Order Breakdown: Widebody, Narrowbody, and Freighter Aircraft
The agreement encompasses a strategic mix of commercial jets and freighters designed to modernize and expand the airline’s operations:
- 20 Boeing 777-9
- 25 Boeing 787-10
- 50 Boeing 737-10
- 8 Boeing 777-8 Freighter

A Comprehensive $44.8 Billion Package with Engine Support
Korean Air detailed that the comprehensive transaction package reaches a total value of $44.8 billion. In addition to the aircraft, this amount includes:
- An $8.6 billion contract allocated for the procurement of 21 spare engines from manufacturers GE Aerospace and CFM International.
- A 15-year engine maintenance agreement that will cover 28 aircraft.
Expansion Following the Integration of Asiana Airlines and Operational Efficiency
The South Korean carrier indicated that this investment will support the long-term expansion of its fleet following the integration of Asiana Airlines, while facilitating the transition toward next-generation models with higher fuel efficiency.
Korean Air CEO Cho Won-tae previously pointed out that the new aircraft will allow the company to expand its destination network toward the United States and Latin America. Furthermore, he specified that approximately 80% of the new jets will replace existing aircraft within the operator’s fleet.
