Singapore Airlines (SIA) has unveiled the next generation of its in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, pairing 4K touchscreen displays, spatial audio, and high-speed in-flight connectivity powered by the Starlink constellation. This comprehensive cabin retrofit will roll out progressively across its long-haul fleet beginning in 2027.

The carrier aims to redefine passenger comfort and cabin immersion through a major technological leap. The updated KrisWorld platform integrates state-of-the-art hardware, Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity, and a customized software architecture engineered to meet both the connectivity demands of corporate travelers and the entertainment preferences of frequent flyers.

Commenting on the milestone, Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience at Singapore Airlines, noted: Budget flights

“Our customers told us they wanted more choice and flexibility in how they spend their time on board, as well as entertainment and connectivity that integrate more seamlessly into their journey. This feedback guided the development of the next-generation KrisWorld and SIA’s enhanced connectivity suite, making it easier to discover and enjoy content, stay in touch with loved ones, and transition smoothly between entertainment and other in-flight activities.”

Visual and Acoustic Hardware: 4K OLED Displays and Spatial Audio

The cornerstone of the KrisWorld hardware refresh centers on ultra-high-definition display tech and immersive audio tuning across all cabin classes.

Screen Dimensions and Display Specifications by Cabin Class

  • First Class: 32-inch 4K touchscreen monitors, with OLED panels featured on select airframes.
  • Business Class: Touchscreen displays up to 22 inches (22 inches on the A350-900 and 20 inches on the Boeing 777-9), with OLED panels also fitted on specific units.
  • Premium Economy Class: 4K touchscreen displays up to 16 inches, with OLED panels available on select Boeing 777-9 aircraft.

Acoustic Fidelity and Personal Device Connectivity

The system integrates immersive spatial audio across all travel classes to deliver a three-dimensional soundscape. On the accessory side:

  • First Class passengers will receive Bang & Olufsen active noise-canceling (ANC) wireless Bluetooth headphones.
  • Business Class and Premium Economy Class cabins will be outfitted with active noise-canceling headphones.
  • Economy Class will be provided with wired headsets.
  • Bluetooth audio pairing for compatible personal headphones will be enabled throughout all cabins on the Boeing 777-9, in Business Class and First Class on the A350-900ULR, and in Business Class on long-haul A350-900 aircraft.

User Interface, Content Catalog, and In-Flight Wellness Platform

The KrisWorld software architecture has undergone a complete redesign to streamline navigation, introducing clean menus, larger icons, and responsive search and filtering tools.

  • Multitasking Navigation and Flight Data: Passengers can use a picture-in-picture mini-player to keep video content playing in a minimized window while browsing the menu or creating shortcuts to preferred categories. A real-time sidebar displays en-route weather and time to destination without interrupting playback.
  • Kids’ Mode: A dedicated environment for young travelers featuring a simplified graphical user interface and an age-curated content library.
  • Monthly Media Library: The platform provides more than 2,500 on-demand entertainment selections updated monthly, bolstered by partnerships with streaming platforms such as Apple TV, BBC, CNA, HBO Max, iQIYI, and Paramount+, alongside live TV channels including BBC News and Sport 24.
  • Wellness Planner: A dedicated module tailored for long-haul operations, offering breathwork routines, guided sleep and meditation tracks, in-seat stretching sessions, wellness tips, and cabin lighting and beverage recommendations matched to each flight phase.

Starlink LEO Connectivity and Cabin Personalization

Beginning in early 2027, SIA will roll out Starlink high-speed satellite broadband, leveraging its LEO constellation to deliver seamless, low-latency, gate-to-gate connectivity. The high-throughput bandwidth will support streaming, remote corporate workflows, cloud gaming, and social media browsing on personal electronic devices (PEDs).

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi: Unlimited, free connectivity will continue to be offered to passengers in Suites, First Class, and Business Class, as well as PPS Club and KrisFlyer frequent flyer program members traveling in Premium Economy and Economy Class.
  • In-Seat Power: USB-C ports will be installed across the Boeing 777-9 and retrofitted A350 fleets, supplemented by dedicated wireless charging pads in First Class and Business Class.
  • KrisFlyer User Profile: Account sign-in will allow travelers to resume movie and TV playback seamlessly across connecting sectors, access personalized viewing recommendations, and view up-to-date departure gates and transit terminal details for onward SIA flights out of Singapore Changi Airport. In First Class and Business Class, the profile will also store preferred ambient lighting settings and preset seat positions (dining, relaxing, or sleep mode).
