In response to an extraordinary surge in travel demand caused by rail service disruptions following the train crash in Urda (Toledo), Iberia has deployed an operational contingency plan adding 14 extra flights between Madrid and Andalusia between today, Thursday, and tomorrow, Friday, October 30, along with a price cap on fares.
Capacity Uplift and Operational Boost
The carrier has substantially scaled up its seat offering to safeguard passenger mobility between the capital and key Andalusian hubs, combining extra frequencies with aircraft upgauges:
- Thursday Operations: Six additional flights are being introduced (two round-trips to Malaga and one to Seville), delivering a 42% capacity surge for the day with 1,080 extra seats (720 on the Madrid–Malaga corridor and 360 on Madrid–Seville).
- Friday, October 30 Operations: The airline will operate eight additional flights, adding 1,760 seats and effectively doubling its initially scheduled capacity for the day.
- Overall Capacity Impact: Between October 28 and Friday, October 30, Iberia expects to provide a total of 3,280 additional seats—a 47% increase over its baseline schedule.

Aircraft Upgauging
To maximize available seat inventory, the airline has upgauged aircraft gauge across these sectors. The majority of flights between Madrid and both Andalusian destinations have transitioned to Airbus A321 equipment, complemented by an ad-hoc capacity upgauge on one of the Thursday frequencies bound for Malaga.
Flight Schedules for Friday, October 30
Madrid – Seville – Madrid:
- Madrid departures: 10:40 and 14:45
- Seville departures: 12:35 and 16:45
Madrid – Malaga – Madrid:
- Madrid departures: 06:30 and 18:50
- Malaga departures: 08:25 and 20:45
Fare Caps and Passenger Flexibility Waivers
In light of the operational disruption, the carrier has instituted a price ceiling across all routes linking Madrid and Andalusia through Sunday, November 8. Under this cap, fares are restricted to:
- Economy Class: Capped at €99 one-way.
- Business Class: Capped at €149 one-way.
In parallel, a travel waiver policy has been enacted for passengers impacted by the rail outage who need to modify their bookings, supported by a dedicated toll-free assistance line at 900 111 500. Iberia continues to actively monitor the operational environment and evaluate scheduling further relief flights over the coming days.
