British Airways and Mexican carrier Viva have entered into a strategic codeshare agreement set to expand air connectivity between Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Europe. Under this agreement, passengers will be able to connect to 13 domestic destinations across Mexico on a single ticket marketed through the British flag carrier’s sales channels.

Enhanced Connectivity Across Domestic Mexico via Mexico City and Cancun

The agreement allows British Airways passengers to book single-itinerary connections to and from 13 destinations in Mexico operated by Viva, transiting through the country’s two primary hubs: Mexico City and Cancun, with London serving as the origin or final destination.

This integration enables travelers to manage their entire journey under a single transaction, streamlining the passenger experience. Furthermore, members of The British Airways Club will be eligible to earn Avios and Tier Points when traveling on these codeshare routes.

Conversely, passengers originating their travel in Mexico will gain seamless onward connectivity in London to British Airways’ global network of over 200 international destinations.

Strategic Synergy: Global Reach Meets Low-Cost Scale

Viva, Mexico’s ultra-low-cost carrier, has carried over 180 million passengers across its 20-year history. Its operation is anchored by a fleet of 110 Airbus A320 and A321 family aircraft, serving a network of more than 60 destinations across Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Cuba, alongside its ‘Flex-SI-bility’ policy for flight modifications and ticket transfers.

Neil Chernoff, Chief Planning and Strategy Officer at British Airways, underscored the historical significance of the market:

“We are delighted to launch our new codeshare partnership with Viva, unlocking more of Mexico for our customers and offering greater choice when planning travel. Mexico has been an integral part of our network for over 60 years, and this agreement marks the next chapter in that long-standing history. By combining Viva’s extensive domestic network with British Airways’ global connectivity, we are making it easier for customers to travel between Mexico, London, and destinations across our wider network.”

Javier Suarez, Executive Vice President and Chief Network and Alliances Officer at Viva, highlighted the operational benefits of the agreement:

“We are thrilled about this new alliance with British Airways. Connecting British Airways services with our network from Mexico City and Cancun will allow their passengers to seamlessly reach many more destinations across Mexico. Similarly, passengers from cities throughout our network will be able to connect via Mexico City or Cancun to board a British Airways flight to Europe and beyond, all with the convenience of a single ticket.”

Codeshare itineraries operated in partnership with Viva are already open for bookings on the British Airways website, with formal operations scheduled to commence on March 28, 2027.
