Qatar Airways has successfully restored its network to over 550 weekly flights to some 85 destinations as the global health crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic recovers.

In August, the airline has already announced the resumption of flights to eight destinations, including Adelaide, Auckland, Houston, Kigali, London Gatwick, Nairobi, Philadelphia and Sialkot.

The airline’s continued activity during the pandemic and its range of fuel-efficient aircraft has also allowed it to increase frequencies, offering passengers more flexible travel options to different destinations.

Qatar Airways’ CEO, Akbar Al Baker, recalled that throughout the health crisis the network of destinations “at no time was below 30 destinations”.

In addition, he recalled that the company has implemented “advanced” health and safety measures on board, which has allowed it to be the first airline to ask passengers to wear face shields, in addition to masks.

In a context marked by possible restrictions to stop the spread of the pandemic, the airline has also expanded its reservation policies to offer even more options to its passengers. The signature will allow unlimited date changes, and passengers will be able to change their destination as much as they need if it is less than 5,000 miles from the original destination.

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on travel demand, the airline has made the decision to ground its Airbus A380 fleet, as “it is neither commercially nor environmentally justifiable to operate such a large aircraft in today’s market,” it said in a statement.
