American Airlines suspends operations at 15 airports due to low passenger demand.

The expiration of federal economic aid due to the coronavirus pandemic, known as “CARES Act”, and the low demand of passengers at airports led American Airlines to announce Thursday that it will suspend services in 15 U.S. airport.

According to the Fort Worth, Texas-based airline, these measures will be temporary and take effect on October 7. For now, the cancellation applies to the booking period that runs until November 3.

The CARES Act funds included more than $10 billion in federal money that allowed the Secretary of Transportation to provide financial assistance to airlines to require them to maintain service at all their locations at least at a minimum level of flights.

Signed in late March, the CARES Act was created so that different areas of government could prevent, prepare for, and respond to the economic needs that resulted from the closures caused by COVID-19.

The minimum flight order would remain in effect until 30 September.

The airports where services will be suspended are: Del Rio, Texas; Florence, South Carolina; Greenville, North Carolina; Huntington, West Virginia; Joplin, Missouri; Kalamazoo, Michigan; Lake Charles, Louisiana; New Haven, Connecticut; New Windsor, New York; Roswell, New Mexico; Sioux Citu, Iowa; Springfield, Illinois; Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
