United Airlines eliminates charges for flight changes.
United Airlines has announced that it will permanently and with immediate effect eliminate charges for airfare changes in the United States, in an effort to stimulate travel bookings that have plummeted due to the coronavirus.
All fees for changes in both Economy and Premium tickets for travel within the 50 United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be eliminated. Customers will not be limited in the number of times they adjust their flights.
United is also extending its waiver for new tickets issued through December 31, 2020, to allow unlimited changes at no charge. This policy applies to all types of tickets issued after March 3 and is valid for domestic and international travel.
Another measure that will go into effect on January 1, 2021 will allow United Airlines passengers to enter a waiting list for free travel on a different flight on the same day with the same departure and arrival itinerary, if seats are available.
The airline thus offers its customers more flexibility to change their flights on the same day of travel so they can return home if a meeting ends earlier or enjoy a few more hours of vacation, provided there is availability at departure.
