While the Argentine government advances with the flexibilizations of more activities in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, the Minister of Tourism of the Nation, Matías Lammes, admitted that they are working intensely so that the domestic flights can return as of October.

“It is difficult to set a date, our expectation is that by October we will be able to fly again,” said Lammens after the Ministry of Transport decided to back up with the return of commercial air activity from September.

“If everything goes well, I hope that by October or before the end of the year we can make domestic flights,” said the official. And he admitted that he is working together with the areas of transport and health “to be as soon as possible” as long as the epidemiological situation allows.

Asked about the risks that could lead to crowding in an enclosed space for people to be moved, the official responded with an example: “Airlines has flights to Miami and Madrid, and Air France is also already operating in the country. We check that there is no risk of contagion above the plane so we are working to start freeing up air transport”.

In April this year, a resolution of the National Civil Aviation Administration (Anac) provided that airlines could sell and schedule regular flights from September. However, that date as a starting point for the resumption of operations was later postponed and Minister Mario Meoni estimated a period of 60 days in which regular commercial flight activity could be reactivated.

But for Lammens it could be sooner: “If we have learned anything in these months it is that the virus is dynamic and it is difficult to talk about deadlines. If everything continues as it is, we believe that sooner rather than later we will have domestic flights.
