Peru will reopen its borders and resume international flights on Oct. 5 with a limited group of countries, after nearly seven months of closure due to the pandemic, President Martin Vizcarra announced this Friday, reported AFP.

“International flights will be authorized, as of October 5th, between countries in the region and little by little to other latitudes,” Vizcarra said in a press conference.

He specified that the authorization will be given according to specific protocols to be established by the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Health.

“As of the first week of October. Molecular test will be required” of covid-19 with a validity of 48 hours, said the President.

“These flights will be to destinations that are safe from a health point of view,” he added.

The Minister of Transport, Carlos Estremadoyro, had said on September 2 that the United States, Mexico, Spain and Chile would be part of the first group of countries from which flights to Peru would be authorized.
