The Mexican Volaris loses US$ 104 million in the third quarter.
The Mexican airline Volaris registered a net loss of MXN 2,175 million (US$ 104 million) in the third quarter of the year, compared to a profit of MXN 713 million (US$ 34.1 million) in the same quarter of the previous year, in the context of the crisis generated by the Covid-19.

Despite the losses, the company significantly recovered its capacity measured in terms of available mileage seats (ASMs) compared to the previous quarter. Thus, the company was able to increase its capacity to a level of 63% in July and 79% in August, EuropaPress reported.
Volaris explains that in September, which is a month with few trips, it cautiously increased capacity to 84%, while focusing on increasing total revenue.

During the third quarter, the company reduced its operating income by 50.3%, to MXN 4,724 million (US$ 225.9 million), mainly influenced by the income from passengers, which fell by 50%, to MXN 4,640 million (US$ 221.9 million).
Volaris’ operating result went into negative territory, with losses of MXN 2,227 million (US$ 106.5 million), in contrast to the profit of MXN 1,703 million (US$ 81.4 million) in 2019.
