A Boeing 777 from Japan Airlines (JAL), which was flying this Friday on flight 904 between Naha and Tokyo-Haneda, had to return to the airport and make an emergency landing after having problems with one of its engines.

The incident took place at an altitude of 5,500 meters, about 74 kilometers north of Naha airport. 30 minutes later, the plane landed safely and none of its eleven crew members and 178 passengers were injured.

“The left engine had major parts that were badly damaged,” said Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), calling it a “serious incident.
“Suddenly there was an explosion, and it was a big shock. The captain said, “Please stay calm, we are going back to Naha airport,” said a passenger who was on board the plane.
The Japan Transportation Safety Board (JTSB) launched an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.
