Aeromexico reported Friday that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York, in charge of its Chapter 11 financial restructuring process, authorized an increase in the size of its aircraft fleet.

The airline said last week that it had reached an agreement to purchase 24 new Boeing aircraft, 20 of the 737-8 and B737-9 MAX models, and four Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.

The first aircraft will join its fleet this year, including nine that should be in operation by this summer, while the rest are expected to arrive during the year as well as in 2022.

Aeromexico, which already has 107 aircraft, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a U.S. court in June after the coronavirus pandemic hit the global travel industry.
