Within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) being held in Madrid from today, January 19, Costa Rica’s Minister of Tourism, Gustavo Alvarado, and Iberia’s Commercial and Network Development and Alliances Director, M.ª Jesús López Solás, have renewed the agreement to continue promoting this tourist destination in the more than 90 destinations that the Spanish airline offers in Spain and Europe.
→ Sustainability, new uniforms and in-flight experience, Iberia’s main focuses at FITUR.
A commitment that dates back to 2006 with the aim of promoting the extraordinary richness and diversity of its natural heritage, including its flora and fauna, as well as the quality of its services, which evidences the airline’s commitment to the quality tourism offered by this market and reinforces its leadership in Latin America.
The agreement reached between Iberia and the Costa Rican Ministry includes a battery of actions through the airline’s communication channels such as the in-flight entertainment system, the Ronda Iberia in-flight magazine, its social media profiles, banners on its website, among others.
More than 145,000 seats per year
It is worth remembering that Costa Rica was the first country in Latin America to reopen its borders to tourism in 2020, after the closure originated by the COVID crisis. This fact, together with the diversity of outdoor activities and contact with nature, has made it one of the most desirable and attractive destinations at any time of the year.
During the signing of the agreement, López Solás wanted to highlight the great potential of this route, which the airline currently operates with six weekly frequencies -until March-, hoping to be able to recover as soon as possible the daily flight it offered before the pandemic.
→ Iberia returns to Egypt in 2022 with charter flights.
Iberia will offer more than 145,000 seats annually and, for this purpose, has programmed its Airbus A330-200 aircraft model, with capacity for 288 passengers: 19 in Business Class and 269 in Economy Class.
“Next June we will celebrate the 49th anniversary of our first flight to Costa Rica, a destination that was also the first in Central America to link it with a direct flight. Since then, we have maintained our alliance that has strengthened, even more if possible, the historical ties that have always united us through our main strength: to continue to be the bridge to improve connectivity between this region and Europe,” commented María Jesús López Solás.
