Arajet to connect Santo Domingo directly to Guatemala City
Arajet, the new Dominican low-fare airline, announced that it will directly connect Santo Domingo with Guatemala City, with the signing of an open skies treaty between the government of the Dominican Republic and Guatemala, which will strengthen the air connectivity of both nations. The president of the Central American country, Antonio Giammattei, assured that “one of his government’s dreams will finally come true”.
“When Arajet starts flying to our country, very soon, the first part of the dream I told President Abinader in 2020 will be fulfilled: We need our countries to have direct air and maritime connectivity” said President Giammattei, who was also in favor of signing the seventh air freedom with the country, allowing Dominican aircraft to serve from Guatemalan soil to any other destination.

The agreement was signed at the presidential palace and was signed by the president of the Civil Aviation Board of the Dominican Republic, José Marte Piantini and the director of Civil Aeronautics of Guatemala, Francis Argueta, together with the president of Arajet, Víctor Pacheco and the Dominican airport director, Víctor Pichardo.
During the meeting, Pacheco informed that Arajet will start direct operations between Santo Domingo and Guatemala City in two months, connecting with at least two weekly frequencies between Las Americas International Airport and La Aurora International Airport of the Central American capital.
Arajet will operate an exclusive fleet of Boeing 737 MAX-8s that will allow a 14% reduction in fuel consumption over most of today’s more efficient single-aisle aircraft, thanks to the MAX’s LEAP-1B international CFM engines and state-of-the-art winglets.
The Dominican delegation arrived at La Aurora International Airport aboard Arajet’s second Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, named Valle Nuevo, a model of which it expects to receive 40 aircraft over the next five years.
