After a certification process, the Civil Aeronautics put into operation the ILS CAT III system, at the western head of the north runway (13L) of the El Dorado Airport in Bogotá, which will allow the approach of aircraft in low visibility conditions.
Although the system was installed, it was necessary to carry out a strict certification process by the Secretariat of the Civil Aeronautics Authority, which was completed satisfactorily.

Aircraft that have the technology on board will now be able to land on the north runway of El Dorado Airport, despite adverse weather conditions, without putting operational safety at risk.
The implementation of Category III (CAT III) will benefit air transport users, reducing delays, overruns and diversions to alternate airports caused by low visibility conditions.
“For the national government, guaranteeing air safety will continue to be a priority, therefore, maintaining all air navigation aid systems in the country’s airports will be the task that we will continue to carry out in order to offer increasingly better operational conditions in the country. air transport” assured Guillermo Reyes, Minister of Transport.

Francisco Ospina Ramírez, General Director (E) of the Civil Aeronautics, stressed that, “with the certification of this technology we hope to be able to improve the operations of the El Dorado airport, avoiding delays to users without putting their safety at risk, it is It is important to bear in mind that the aircraft must have the technology on board and the certification of the crews in order to operate in Category III.”
On the other hand, El Dorado airport is the only one in the country that has this system due to the characteristic meteorological conditions of the air terminal.
