Bogota’s El Dorado Airport became the first airport in South America and the second airport in Latin America with the highest passenger traffic, handling more than 35.5 million people in 2022, surpassing the São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport in Brazil by almost one million.
Thanks to the coordinated work between OPAIN, the airlines, Civil Aeronautics, the National Infrastructure Agency, Immigration and other authorities and companies in the airport community, the Bogota airport terminal is one of the preferred airports for travelers from all over the continent as a connection or departure point for new destinations, thus creating new opportunities for connectivity and competitiveness for Colombia in the region’s air sector.

“We receive this news with pride and satisfaction because it is the result of the hard work we have been doing together with the entire airport community to make El Dorado the gateway to Latin America and promote domestic and international tourism. At OPAIN, we will continue working to offer advances in infrastructure and technology, to continue to meet the growing demand of passengers and offer a better service every day to all our users who connect with Colombia and the world,” said Natalí Leal, General Manager of OPAIN.
During 2022, El Dorado achieved a 101% reactivation compared to 2019, which evidences a solid resilience of the sector in Colombia compared to other regions of the world. In addition, the arrival of 4 new airlines was added: Plus Ultra, Arajet, Turpial Airlines and Ultra Air, thus connecting Colombians and foreigners with 46 international and 42 domestic destinations.
