Panama: Tocumen Airport handled more than 1.4 million passengers in May

Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport handled 1,458,009 passengers during the month of May of this year, 153,405 more than the same month of 2022.

Raffoul Arab, General Manager of Tocumen International Airport, indicated that the performance both in operations and number of passengers implies multiple logistical challenges and resources that have guaranteed the provision of world-class competitive airport services.

Destinations and Markets

In terms of international connections, in the month of May Tocumen maintained direct routes to 83 destinations, through 16 commercial airlines offering services to major cities in the Americas and Europe.

The May results indicate that of the total number of passengers using the Tocumen terminal, 76% were connecting passengers. In addition, 11,834 aircraft movements were handled.

According to data provided by the Tocumen International Airport Statistics Department, the markets with the highest regional movement in May were South America with 44%, followed by North America with 28%, the Caribbean with 13%, Central America with 10%, and the European markets with 5%.

Regional Terminals and Cargo

The cargo terminal handled 17,517 metric tons of cargo during the fifth month of the year 2023.

The Panama Pacifico, Enrique Malek, Scarlett Martinez and Enrique A. Jimenez regional terminals, managed by Tocumen, S.A., registered in May a traffic of 47,751 passengers and 1,942 aircraft operations.
