Colombian airline Avianca will open a new route from the city of Medellin to San Juan (Puerto Rico) with four weekly flights and will increase its frequencies to the island from Bogota.
This was announced Monday by the governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi, together with the executive director of the Tourism Company, Carlos Mercado Santiago, and Avianca’s representative on the island, Marilyn Castro.
In this way, Avianca will operate a total of 14 weekly flights during the peak winter season.
“We continue to celebrate achievements that position Puerto Rico as an attractive and accessible tourist destination for our brothers and sisters in the Latin American market, particularly Colombia,” the governor said.

The new Medellín-San Juan route will begin on December 1 and tickets will go on sale starting Tuesday, August 22.
The Bogota-San Juan route will have ten weekly frequencies starting October 30.
This is the highest number of frequencies achieved annually in the history of the Colombian airline’s operations in Puerto Rico.
“The flight between Bogota and San Juan has been a resounding success and the new service from the city of Medellin represents an excellent opportunity, since in addition to expanding the supply of flights from Colombia, it connects the island’s main airport with another of the busiest airports on the South American continent,” explained Mercado Santiago.
Avianca’s sales director for North America, Central America and the Caribbean, Rolando Damas, said that the new Medellín-San Juan route will strengthen “economic exchange and development on both routes”.
