GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes and Air France-KLM announced the signing of an agreement to expand and enhance their strategic partnership over the next 10 years.

Under this agreement, both parties will grant each other exclusivity on routes between Europe and Brazil, and strengthen their commercial cooperation. This will result in improved connectivity, a better customer experience and more benefits for their respective passengers.

Initially introduced in 2014 for a period of 5 years, the strategic partnership between GOL and Air France-KLM had already been renewed in 2019. It covers more than 99% of the demand between Brazil and Europe and, currently, one in five passengers traveling to Brazil with Air France and KLM connects with a GOL flight. In total, more than two million travelers have benefited from the partnership since its inception.

Under this renewed partnership, the airlines will continue to invest to further enhance their customers’ experience and create an even more integrated product. Travelers will benefit from an optimized network between Europe and Brazil, covering more than 80 European destinations, 45 in Brazil and, in the future, new destinations throughout Latin America. The agreement also includes expanded codesharing, enhanced joint sales and more benefits for customers of GOL’s SMILES and Air France-KLM’s Flying Blue frequent flyer programs.

Air France-KLM posts record third-quarter operating profit

The enhanced collaboration includes an ambitious extension of Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance’s existing maintenance support for GOL’s CFM56 and LEAP engines.

“Our partnership with Air France-KLM has brought countless improvements and benefits to all our customers in recent years, and is based on the mutual trust and admiration of both companies. We are proud to celebrate the renewal of another decade of partnership, crowning a long and successful history that includes such important elements as the engine maintenance credit line,” commented Celso Ferrer, CEO of GOL.

“South America, and in particular Brazil, is one of the most strategic markets for Air France-KLM. This historic partnership has been instrumental in enabling us to offer our customers a complete and comprehensive value proposition in the region. Building on what we have built so far, we are delighted to extend and deepen this exclusive partnership for another 10 years,” said Benjamin Smith, CEO of Air France KLM.

Optimized connections from GOL’s hubs in Brazil and Air France-KLM’s hubs in Europe

Air France and KLM passengers can connect on GOL flights from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Fortaleza. Passengers of the Brazilian airline also have access to the worldwide networks of both European carriers from their hubs at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol airports.

During peak season, Air France operates 24 weekly flights to Brazil (14 to São Paulo, 7 to Rio de Janeiro and 3 to Fortaleza), while KLM offers 14 weekly flights (7 to São Paulo and 7 to Rio de Janeiro).
