Copa Airlines temporarily suspends operations of its Boeing 737-9 for technical overhaul
Panamanian airline Copa Airlines informed this Saturday that, following the Airworthiness Directive issued by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it has temporarily suspended operations of twenty-one (21) of its twenty-nine (29) Boeing 737-9 aircraft until they undergo the required technical review.
The directive was issued after an emergency door on an Alaska Airlines 737-9 broke loose while climbing from Portland, Oregon, en route to Ontario, California, forcing the pilots to turn around and land safely with 171 passengers and six crew members on board.

Copa indicated that it has initiated the required technical inspections and expects to return these aircraft to the flight schedule safely and reliably within the next 24 hours.
“Copa Airlines’ human team is working to minimize the impact on our passengers, even though some delays and cancellations are expected due to this situation beyond the airline’s control,” the airline said in a statement.
Copa Airlines recommended that passengers check their flight status at copa.com or on the airline’s mobile app.
