Wingo adds 12,000 seats on international routes

Wingo announced Thursday that it will increase its seat capacity in the international market, as passengers in that segment grew 32.6% in the first quarter of 2024, according to a report published by Colombia’s Civil Aeronautics.

Specifically, there are four routes on which seat availability has increased.

Peru and Costa Rica, with 33% capacity increases

For the Bogotá-Lima-Bogotá and Bogotá-San José-Bogotá routes, Wingo added a weekly frequency for a total of 4 flights per week. This new frequency on both routes will operate on Sundays, and represents the addition of 1,500 seats per month.

Nine thousand seats for the Mexican market

For the Bogota-Cancun-Bogota and Medellin-Cancun-Medellin routes, the airline reorganized its operation to make these services part of its regular flight offerings, as they were operating seasonally during peak holiday seasons.

With this operational decision, Wingo will offer a total of 9 thousand seats per month to Mexico throughout the year, specifically to Cancun, the main tourist destination in the Aztec territory. The airline will begin operating 3 weekly flights on both routes in June.

“At Wingo we are aware of the significant movement in the international passenger market, which is growing at a faster rate than the domestic market as a result of a greater movement of Colombians abroad, as well as the increase of foreign tourists who come to visit our country. At Wingo, we are joining this objective to exceed the national goal of 6 million visitors, with a greater capacity in these countries of origin for Colombia,” said Jorge Jiménez, Wingo’s Commercial and Planning Vice President.
