Edelweiss’s First Airbus A350 Lands in Zurich

This Thursday marked a historic day for the Swiss aviation industry. The first Airbus A350 with a national registration has arrived at Zurich Airport, symbolizing a significant milestone for Edelweiss Air and its fleet. The aircraft, arriving from Lourdes Airport in France, is registered as HB-IHF.

An Emotional Landing

The Airbus A350 did not disappoint the spectators. During its approach, it executed a planned go-around maneuver, followed by a celebratory loop around the airport before touching down. This gesture allowed those present to enjoy a unique view of this state-of-the-art long-haul aircraft.

Edelweiss Expands Its Flight Offer in Spring

After landing, the aircraft was greeted with the traditional water arch salute by the Zurich Fire and Rescue Service. Accompanied by follow-me vehicles, the plane taxied to its parking position at B38, where over 100 employees and the executive team of Edelweiss were waiting to welcome the new addition and its crew.

The Airbus A350: Efficiency and Sustainability

The Airbus A350-900 stands out not only for its modern design but also for its commitment to the environment. This twin-engine aircraft incorporates the latest technologies and advanced aerodynamics, making it one of the most efficient and eco-friendly long-range aircraft in the world. It consumes 25% less fuel and emits 25% less CO2 compared to its predecessor, the four-engine Airbus A340. Additionally, it reduces noise emissions by up to 50%.

Edelweiss has confirmed the acquisition of six Airbus A350-900 units, aiming to replace its current five Airbus A340-300s and expand its long-haul fleet to six aircraft by mid-2027. This move not only modernizes the airline’s fleet but also positions it more competitively and sustainably in the aviation market.
