United Airlines has decided to increase the cost of access to its lounges at airports to curb the excessive crowding that has been observed since the pandemic. The airline aims to enhance the experience for frequent travelers who use these exclusive spaces.
Price Increases and New Membership Categories
According to a statement sent to customers this Monday, the airline will raise the cost of an individual United Club membership to $750 annually or 94,000 reward miles for members of its MileagePlus loyalty program. Additionally, it has introduced a new membership tier called “All Access,” priced at $1,400 or 175,000 miles, which allows the primary member to bring certain guests.
Previously, the highest annual fee for United Club was $650 or 85,000 miles, representing a significant increase.

Growing Demand for Premium Experiences
Since the end of health restrictions, travelers have flocked to VIP lounges by enrolling in loyalty programs and obtaining co-branded credit cards. This has led to a surge in demand for exclusive spaces offering food, beverages, and comfortable seating, making them a key perk for frequent flyers.
The Overcrowding Problem in VIP Lounges
In recent years, major U.S. airlines have had to address overcrowding in their VIP lounges, where long lines have sometimes extended outside the facilities. To counter this, companies have expanded their spaces, opened new locations, and restricted access for certain groups.
Implementation of New Fees
United Airlines has confirmed that the new prices take effect this Monday. However, customers with active memberships will retain their benefits until their current contracts expire.
With these changes, the airline seeks to provide a more exclusive and comfortable experience for passengers using VIP lounges, reducing overcrowding and maintaining the quality of service in its premium spaces.
