The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has just achieved an unparalleled record in the aviation industry: over one billion passengers carried since its entry into service in 2011. With a global fleet of more than 1,175 aircraft, the Dreamliner has completed nearly 5 million flights, accumulating over 30 million flight hours. This accomplishment makes it the fastest wide-body aircraft to reach this milestone.
Scott Stocker, Vice President and General Manager of the 787 program at Boeing, expressed his gratitude: “This milestone would not have been possible without the trust of our customers. It is a testament to how the aircraft has delivered on its promise to transform air travel with operational versatility, efficiency, and comfort.”
The Most Successful Long-Haul Aircraft on the Market
The 787 has conquered the skies not only for its capacity but also for its sales figures: over 2,000 orders from 89 customers. Its presence spans more than 85 countries, operating in over 520 airports worldwide. Additionally, it has been the driving force behind more than 425 new direct routes to previously inaccessible destinations, expanding air connectivity to unprecedented levels.

Daily Operations
With approximately 2,100 daily flights, the Dreamliner transports more than 480,000 passengers each day, equivalent to nearly 14.5 million people per month. On average, each 787 unit spends over 12 hours in the air daily, highlighting its high demand and reliability in global operations.
Technology, Efficiency, and Sustainability
One of the pillars of the 787’s success is its efficiency. This aircraft family consumes 25% less fuel compared to the models it has replaced. This performance is achieved through a combination of factors: next-generation engines, extensive use of lightweight composite materials, optimized systems, and advanced aerodynamics.
Routes Connecting the World
Among the most notable routes operated by the Dreamliner are:
- The Longest: London–Perth, at 7,829 nautical miles, operated by Qantas.
- The Shortest: Aruba–Curaçao, at just 65 nautical miles, covered by TUI.
Both routes demonstrate the 787’s operational versatility, capable of adapting to both intercontinental flights and very short regional journeys.
This milestone not only marks an achievement for Boeing but also for the entire commercial aviation industry, reflecting how innovation can transform the flying experience for millions of people worldwide.
