In March 2025, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded 5,503,333 passengers, a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This growth was achieved without the usual boost from Easter, which this year falls in April.
Strong International Traffic Growth
Of the more than 5.5 million passengers, 5,495,546 were commercial travelers. International traffic drove the growth: 4,084,560 passengers traveled on foreign flights, representing a 5.1% year-on-year increase. In contrast, domestic flights saw 1,410,986 passengers, a decline of 2.9%.
These figures confirm a clear trend: Madrid-Barajas is solidifying its role as a key international hub, enhancing its appeal to global airlines and travelers.

Regarding air cargo, 70,918 metric tons of goods were transported, an 8.8% increase compared to March 2024. This figure cements Barajas as the country’s leading air logistics hub, handling 61.1% of all air cargo managed by Aena’s network during the month.
First Quarter of 2025: Rising Figures
The results for the first quarter of the year are also positive. Between January and March 2025, 15,522,209 passengers used Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, a 4.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
During this time, 100,848 aircraft movements were recorded, up 4.2% from the first three months of 2024. Meanwhile, accumulated air cargo reached 191,075 metric tons, a 7.6% growth.
The March and year-to-date data reinforce Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport as Spain’s primary air gateway.
