Saudia Group announced this Wednesday the acquisition of 10 Airbus A330-900 aircraft for its low-cost subsidiary, flyadeal.
The announcement was made at Airbus facilities in Toulouse, France, during a ceremony attended by senior executives, including Saudia Group Director General Ibrahim Al-Omar, Airbus Commercial Aircraft CEO Christian Scherer, Fleet and Agreements Management Vice President Saleh Eid, and Airbus Executive Vice President of Sales Benoît de Saint-Exupéry.
A Strategic Decision Aligned with Vision 2030
As stated by H.E. Engr. Ibrahim Al-Omar, this acquisition is part of an ambitious modernization and growth strategy:
“This agreement is a key milestone in our strategy to modernize and expand our fleet. It follows the historic order of 105 aircraft placed last year. This move aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to connect 250 destinations and facilitate travel for over 330 million passengers and 150 million tourists by 2030.”

Cutting-Edge Technology: Efficiency, Comfort, and Range
The Airbus A330-900, part of the A330neo family, is powered by state-of-the-art Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and can fly up to 13,300 km (7,200 nautical miles) nonstop. This makes it an ideal platform for the new long-haul routes flyadeal plans to introduce.
One of the standout features of this model is its Airspace cabin, renowned for delivering a superior travel experience. Its highlights include more personal space, larger overhead compartments, an upgraded lighting system, and the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity.
Strengthening Regional Leadership
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry emphasized the significance of this order for the group’s expansion plan:
“The A330neo order for flyadeal is a key step toward opening new long-haul markets and attracting new customers. Its efficiency and passenger experience are ideal for supporting Saudia Group’s strategic growth.”
This order follows the May 2024 agreement, in which Saudia Group placed an order for 105 Airbus aircraft, including 54 A321neo units specifically for flyadeal. Currently, the low-cost airline operates a fleet of 38 A320 family aircraft, while Saudia has 159 passenger aircraft, 93 of which are Airbus models.
With this addition, flyadeal solidifies its position as one of the region’s low-cost carriers with the youngest and most modern fleet. The arrival of the A330neo marks the beginning of a new era in its history, enabling longer routes and significantly enhancing its value proposition.
