American Airlines Doubles Down on Chicago: More Flights and Warm Destinations This Winter

American Airlines announced a major expansion out of Chicago O’Hare International Airport for the winter season, doubling its flights to warm-weather destinations and strengthening its leadership in the region.

More Flights, More Destinations: The Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico Within Reach from Chicago

This winter, American Airlines will offer more than twice as many flights to warm destinations from Chicago compared to the previous season, positioning itself as the leading airline in the region out of O’Hare. The company is adding seven new routes, including five new international destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America.

New International Routes from Chicago

Passengers will be able to fly nonstop to:

  • Curaçao – Saturday service beginning December 6
  • St. Croix – Saturday service beginning December 6
  • St. Maarten – Saturday service beginning November 8
  • Guatemala City – up to three weekly flights starting November 6
  • San José, Costa Rica – daily service starting November 2

American Airlines Announces Improvements to Its Boarding Process

These additions complement the 11 existing destinations American already serves in the region, most of which will see increased flight frequencies during the winter season.

New Domestic Routes: Strengthening Regional Connectivity

In addition to international destinations, American will launch new daily flights from Chicago to:

  • Roanoke, Virginia – starting August 6
  • Akron/Canton, Ohio – two daily flights starting October 6

Increased Frequencies: More Flights to Your Favorite Destinations

Beyond expanding its network with new routes, American is also increasing service to several popular destinations:

  • Cancun – up to three daily flights beginning November 2
  • Los Cabos – up to two daily flights beginning November 2
  • Puerto Vallarta – two daily flights from December 18 to January 6

Liberia, Aruba, Nassau, St. Thomas, San Juan (Puerto Rico), Grand Cayman – all moving to daily service starting December 18

Montego Bay – up to two daily flights beginning November 2

Ben Humphrey, American’s Vice President of Operations at O’Hare, stated: “We want to offer our customers an escape from the harsh Midwest winter with more than double the flights to popular vacation spots. We’re reaffirming our commitment to the Chicago community, its economy, and our team.”

Improved Airport Experience

American has also upgraded the ground experience in Chicago with:

  • New self-service kiosks
  • A redesigned lobby for faster check-in
  • Enhanced boarding technology
  • Five additional minutes added to the boarding process for all flights

When to Book?

Tickets for all of these new services will be available starting May 5 through American Airlines’ website or mobile app.

With this expansion, American Airlines is giving Chicago travelers more options than ever to escape the cold and enjoy the sun this winter, while strengthening both its international and regional network from one of the most important hubs in the United States.
